365: My year in cities 2009

View Cities 2009 in a larger map

How things have changed since I last listed the cities I visited (in 2007). A year spent developing a new commuting pattern between four continents and probably not enough time spent relaxing in the UK, hence a resolution to spend more time here and less time there in 2010. There were plenty of flights too.

I spent at least a night in each of these places; multiple visits are indicated by the number in brackets.

Amman (8)
Arusha (1)
Biddenden (3)
Cairo (7)
Dar es Salaam (2)
Dubai (5)
Huskasson (1)
Istanbul (1)
Kuwait (5)
New York (3)
Nungwi (1)
Rainham (4)
Singapore (1)
Stonetown (1)
Sydney (2)
Tampa (4)

365: Clarkson: the public has spoken

As it happens I have a good deal of respect for the guy after speaking with a left-wing friend of mine who spent some time chaperoning Jeremy Clarkson, but the public persona as a few detractors as a close up view of this picture shows

365: Rewind, repeat

It’s easiest to just repeat what I wrote in 2007, and would have written in 2008 if I’d remembered:

“And so another Crisis season opens. It’s a remarkable organisation with 6,500 volunteers serving more than 2,000 guests in eight centres across London. Everything (almost) comes together for seven days, and then packs up until next year.

Despite the inevitable lows that accompany the highs, it’s a genuine pleasure to spend time with the shift team. They’re a properly good bunch of people.”

365: Night Driving

http://www.vimeo.com/8441288

A week at Crisis had me spending a lot of time getting lost in the Docklands and driving late at night, which was a perfect opportunity to play around with more timelapse photography. About 850 images make up this movie, condensing a 40 minute journey late at night.

365: The perfect (bovine) gift

It’s the first chance I’ve had to see the life-sized cow we bought Pop Down for this birthday earlier this year. From a distance it’s uncanny – she’s watching me. (Up close she looks a bit hollow.)

365: Morning has broken

Like the first morning, blackbird has spoken like the first bird. A stunning sky brightens a Kentish Christmas Day.

365: Do you know what Brussels Sprouts are called in Belgium?

Brussel sprouts (according to my Belgian grandmother). Crates and crates of them prior in the Crisis warehouse prior to tomorrow’s Christmas lunch. Urgh.

365: Sunset over E16

It is an inevitability that, as most of my waking hours for the next few days are devoted to a building where pictures cannot be taken and I don’t have the time to go out and find more interesting things to shoot, you’ll be seeing a ragtag bunch of pictures of the sky. Like this one overlooking London City Airport from the sleeping area.

365: Tiny tree

If not at home, and no small children to get excited by presents, then why bother with a real tree when this Poundland bargain costs just £1 for the tree, and £1 for the lights. Classy.
