Happy Halloween!
Yes – it’s a bit of a self-portrait. Look at those ears. And here’s the day wear version:
365: Under How It Is
To the Tate Modern for an art infusion. Pop Life good, pleased to see that Andy Warhol sold himself so widely towards the end of his career whilst the Takashi Murakami pieces are terrific. I’m all for artists themselves making money from their creativity rather than dealers and collectors skimming the profits. Although the John Baldessari work was more impactful for me.
As for How It Is, the big black box in the Turbine Hall? Whilst we were sly enough to not head down until half nine in the evening, avoiding the cameraphone touting teenage idiots who destroy the intent and effect of the exhibit, I wasn’t that taken with it. It’s just not that black, and not that clever. An element of the Emperor’s new clothes about it. More interesting for us was the space underneath, which adds new texture to the building’s already dark metallic space.
365: Fine? Not fine
I’m not even going to bother going into how this happened, except to say I’m £30 lighter and no safer. Annoying, very annoying.
365: London fog
Comes back to haunt us for a few hours. It was an eery, pleasurable experience whilst being beasted across the common this evening
365: Bathroom/bedroom interface
Whilst writing up a review (as yet unposted) of the Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City (I am, to this extent, an advocate of social media and handing over my copyright to someone else) I reflected on how bloody… odd this design it. Here’s a bedroom, and here’s a window to the bathroom. Is this for some psycho fantasy? Or a pervert’s paradise? Either way, it’s a bugger to keep clean.
365: The futility of loyalty
Thank you for the gift of these books about consumer loyalty; no, of course it shan’t be a problem to carry them with me; yes, I’m sure they’re full of new and interesting information; no, of course they’re not obesely padded arguments that could be summarised in a three page article.
This won’t secure my loyalty. Business books – are they any actually worth reading?
365: Regrets
One I’ll always have is not getting a chance to fly on Concorde. Evidence that evolution is never guaranteed (but a strong argument against creationism).
365: My hands are getting old
Older than the rest of me, it feels.
365: Pumpkin ceiling
Not deliberately, I think. Where am I? That’s all I’ll write whilst this picture is in the Guess Where London game.
365: Dubai, at dawn and at dusk
At the early and late hours of the day, when the colours aren’t bleached out by bright sunlight, Dubai can be almost attractive. Midday is best spent in a dark air-conditioned room. Even mad dogs and Englishmen would agree.
